Upstate Regency Revival

Project Brief

This Regency brick estate in the Upper Hudson Valley required a thoughtful expansion that would honor its historic character while providing the family with modern living space. One wing was pre existing and required careful restoration to match the new addition being constructed on the opposite side, maintaining the classical proportions and graceful symmetry inherent to Regency architecture. The original spiral staircase was meticulously restored, with refinished white oak treads ascending gracefully through the space beneath a sculptural golden pendant fixture.

Exposed brick passages and archways create dramatic transitions between the historic home and new construction, celebrating the union of period craftsmanship and contemporary living. We collaborated closely with regional artisans throughout the project, carefully matching woodwork between old and new wings. Details include an irregular New York State flagstone patio stretching the length of the home, custom cherry woodwork in the kitchen, and meticulously crafted millwork that honors the home’s neoclassical influences. The result is a seamless expansion that respects the architectural heritage of the original estate while meeting the needs of a modern family.
