From the Archives • 1999 • The Empire State Rowing Association program required a 10,000 square foot building to house over fifty rowing shells belonging to various groups of rowing enthusiasts.
The design concept optimizes the site location on the shore of the river, augmenting the existing playing fields and pedestrian park. The design utilized an abundance of natural light through the use of luminous roof panels and operable roof windows for ventilation. The exposed steel truss system created a soaring and provocative structure with offices, lockers and meeting rooms located in an airy mezzanine that runs the length of the building.
