Built in 1881, the Osborne Carriage House served as the private stables for “Castle Rock”, the country estate of William Osborn, president of the Illinois Central Railroad. The stable, at one time, housed the estate’s draft horses, saddle mounts and a collection of horse drawn carriages. The structure has been renovated to serve as a private residence and once was the temporary residence of actor Paul Newman, while he was working on a film in Beacon, New York.
The renovation included the conversion of storage areas into a Master Bedroom Suite with a fireplace and an elevated sleeping quarters, allowing views over the pool area to the meadows beyond. Access to the Master Bedroom Suite from the main area of the house is provided through a formal Sitting Room. A stone patio and landscaped entertainment area surrounds a natural shaped Pool and Cabana with grill, bar and outdoor Kitchen.
